MAIJA'S DANCE RECITAL

Maija takes Dance lessons from Miss Melissa.

Couple of times a year Miss Melissa organizes a dance recital where the students get to show off their new found dance moves.

 

It is always fun to see Maija perform.

THE POETRY CAFE

Maija's class had been working hard past several weeks,

learning about and writing their own poetry.

 

Last Wednesday night they got to read and present their poetry.

 

Her teacher had turned the pod into a Poetry Cafe.

 

The students wore blue jeans and black shirts to honor the true beatnik culture of the 1950s and early 1960s that was often associated with poetry reading at coffee shops.

 

Kids read their original poems.

They also had "open mic" where the parents and siblings could read aloud their own poems or poems from a book of their choice.

 

It was a very fun night!

KAI'S EAGLE SCOUT PROJECT

Past several months Kai has been working on his Eagle Scout project.

 

He is making Super Hero Capes for Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City. 

 

He is making two sided capes,

where one side is plain so the children can decorate them and

 

make them their own.

 

Our friends and neighbors were very generous with fabric donations, and it kept Kai busy,

cutting the fabric in preparation for his sewing day.

Once he had all the fabric cut...about 120 cape pieces...which would make 60 capes, he was ready to schedule our church building for his Eagle Scout Project Sew-in Day.

 

He had a pinning station, ironing station, turning-the-fabric-outside-in, and sewing station...

and of course a treat station to keep the workers going strong.

 

He had scheduled the building for four hours, 8-12,

and five minutes to 12 we finished the last cape.

 

It was a great project, and lots of people came to help him.

He could not had done it without all the help from our friends.

What a fun project this was!

 

After the school gets out Kai will take the capes and deliver them to the hospital in Salt Lake City.

 

 

 

NIKO'S PERCEPTION FAIR PROJECT....ABOUT THE FOUNDER OF BASKETBALL

...James Naismith...is anybody surprised about his choice. 
Everybody who knows him is not surprised one bit!

He chose the VISIONARY category. 

A person who had a vision...

A person who has made a difference. 

 

Life without a basket ball would be incomprehensible for Niko!

MAIJA AND ANSEL ADAMS

This year our elementary school hosted a perception fair for all the third through fifth graders.  As much as I hate these projects, because of all the extra work it causes, the results are always delightful.

 

 

 

Maija chose to study Ansel Adams and his photography, and how it related to perception.  She studies his photos, and then took some photos of her own from outside in the nature.

...but once you study it closer you see much more than just a flower...you see the detail...and that is how she tied her study of Ansel Adams and his photography to perception...

DADDY DAUGHTER DATE

Our elementary school had a 50s bash. 

Jason took Maija for a daddy daughter date there. 

They danced the night away!

IT HAS BEEN FOR AWHILE

...my computer has been given me a hard time last several months. 

 

It would freeze constantly, so I had been forced to shut and restart.  The mouse and keyboard would stop functioning all of a sudden.  The image on the monitor would just go all crazy looking...or the computer would just plain old shut down in the middle of work.  We all learned to save our work  ALL THE TIME, but past month the computer started crashing every minute or two.

 

Finally I decided to get a new computer. 

I hate getting a new computer. 

To me it means saving and backing up all the old files on CDs.  Once I got a new computer I had to install all the programs again...set up my email accounts, ect, ect...

 

I really prefer the old and familiar over the new and fancy.

 

Grudgingly ... I am more or less ready to start using my new computer.
